About

Sewing HandsKathie has been the StitchWitch since her daughter was a wee tiny babe, making clothes for her, costumes for school plays and Hallowe’en, and knitting leotards and leggings for her ballet beginnings.

Kathie launched her professional career with Redwood Concert Ballet as Costume Mistress and then Costume Designer, a position she held for 17 years.  During that time she also launched StitchWitch Fashion.

Kathie has done professional contract knitting for The Camel, a textile shop in Arcata, California, including knitting classes, custom knitting and mending for their customers and making shop models.

Kathie launched the original StitchWitch Fashion website and began creating custom clothing for happy customers across the US.  She made wedding dresses, shirts for an ice skater, clothing for film buffs doing re-enactments, costumes for local theater productions, and costumes for a Neil Diamond impersonator among others.  During this time, she expanded her knowledge through classes in tailoring, patternmaking, and other dressmaking techniques.  Kathie takes time when doing alterations to examine the construction of garments from famous makers to learn techniques of draping, design and construction and is constantly adding to her repertoire of knowledge.

Her knowledge of tailoring has allowed creative solutions to unique fitting problems posed by gentlemen clients with various issues of size and weight that don’t address themselves well to off-the-rack suits.  In the end, they walk out the door looking very stylish and well-dressed instead of ill-fitting and uncomfortable.

Jenn has been an asset as she learned sewing from her mother, and using her great creativity has also begun designing and creating beautiful garments as well.  She specializes in Renaissance and Medieval garb as she has a special interest in this time period – some of her work is shown elsewhere on this site.

All in all, we think you will find that we have the experience, the creativity, and the capability to deliver on our promise to you – that if it is made with thread, we can make it, fix it, or change it!
